Emergency Responder Radio Coverage

DASi (Denver, CO) specializes in Emergency Responder Radio Coverage and Radio Enhancement Systems (RES). These requirements are mandated by the International Fire Code (IFC) under section 510 as well as the NFPA under Annex O.

Most of the Fire Departments or Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) follow the guidelines of the IFC and NFPA.

However, many of the AHJ’s have modified or amended the requirements with variations in the building size, Radio Frequency (RF) levels, performance, testing, monitoring and battery back-up requirements.

The IFC refers to the requirement as Emergency Responder Radio Coverage System (ERRC) and the NFPA refers to these systems as Radio Enhancement Systems (RES).

RES and ERRC is better known in the industry as a Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) System, Public Safety Repeater, Distributed Antenna System (DAS) or a Radio Amplification System (Radio Amp).

DASi can design, consult and fully integrate your In-Building Public Safety Radio Amplification Systems.  We  can also test your building during the construction phases to determine if a system is required.

This system can also include Wireless and Multi-Carrier Cellular if the AHJ allows a shared system. We use several different DAS solutions that can be utilized to meet the specific needs of the customer and AHJ requirements.  Most of the Public Safety Systems require 700 and/or 800 Mhz but some areas require UHF (450-470 Mhz) and VHF (150-170 Mhz).

DASi can provide:

  • Consulting for Local Fire Ordinances
  • RF Coverage Testing
  • Budgetary Quotes
  • Full Integration and System Installation
  • Commissioning and Testing with Fire Authority
  • System Maintenance Plans
  • Frequency Bands
    • VHF
    • UHF
    • 700/800 MHz

Most of fire jurisdictions in Colorado have implemented a version of the International Fire Code (IFC) for the requirements of new and in some cases existing buildings. The building size requirements are usually 50,000 sq. ft. However some jurisdictions do not have a minimum size requirement and can enforce this ordinance on existing/new buildings of any size.

The fire code requires that the existing/new building must be tested to meet the adequate Radio Frequency (RF) levels that range from -85 to -100 dBm.

Contact DASi to find the perfect communications solution for you.

This is a typical Passive Public Safety DAS that includes a Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA), Battery Back-Up, Donor Antenna (Outdoor) and in Internal Antenna System which consists of plenum coax, couplers/splitters, connectors and indoor antennas.
